Lawn Mowing and Maintenance
These quick mowing habits will keep your lawn looking thick and full of life.
If you are planting new seed on the property then take your climate into account and plant the right seed for the area.
The frequency of cutting your lawn should be once per week to keep it from growing too tall. It is important not to cut the grass too short or cut off too much at once.
Use the chart below for a general guideline. When looking at the chart keep in mind the current height of your grass and never cut more than 1/3 of the leaf blade that exists currently. Cutting more results in scalping and can be detrimental to your property.
Scalping your lawn will expose the stems and they will be more likely to suffer from stress, insects and disease. It will also allow weeds to germinate and grow more quickly.
While cutting, ensure the mower blades are sharp and change the direction mowed each time.
Only cut when the lawn is dry to avoid grass clumping and dulling your blades.

Watering the lawn should be done in a way that benefits the lawn and the environment. Otherwise, it can be wasteful and cost more to maintain. In Florida, rain can be an every-day occurrence. If it rains, then no watering is necessary. There are climate sensors that can be installed to do this automatically. After the rainfall is taken into account, keep in mind that watering only needs to be done 2 to 3 times per week. Always irrigate early in the morning and enough to penetrate the soil 6 inches deep. This should be done before the sun has a chance to evaporate the water from the grass.
The process of maintaining your property does not have be a painstaking process.
